What to do in Christchurch

Saints of Tai Tapu is located just out of the Christchurch City limits and provides easy access via the Christchurch – Akaroa Road (Hwy 75) into the city with a travelling time
of around 25 minutes.

Christchurch is a city that offers a wide range of activities for you to explore at your leisure, including wondering through the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum, the Arts Centre, or Christchurch City’s new purpose-built library in the Cathedral Square and strolling the large recreational space of North Hagley Park.

There is also an opportunity to appreciate the transformation of the Christchurch CBD that was devastated by the 2010 and 2011 earthquake sequence, which saw 95% of the Christchurch CBD buildings demolished and the emergence of the new 21st century architectural trends as the city is slowly being rebuilt from 2012 onwards.

If you decide to leave the CBD there is an excellent opportunity to visit the world-renowned Antarctic Centre as Christchurch is one of the only five gateways to the frozen continent of Antarctica. Or travel to the nearby beaches, and enjoy the freshness of the Pacific Ocean as gently rolls into Pegasus Bay. The Brighton Pier is an excellent observation point to gauge the grandeur of the region and size of Pegasus Bay.

Or you can take a short drive over the hill via Gebbes Pass Road and head to the many idyllic and beautiful small inlets of Lyttelton Harbour. Such as the little bay known as Diamond Harbour, Governors’ Bay that looks down the main harbour or visit the working port town of Lyttelton itself, before travelling through the road tunnel to explore Christchurch.

If you wish Saints Tai Tapu can organise a visit to a working dairy farm that has an array of other farm animals for you to see and touch, as part of our explore the real New Zealand, its people and their lifestyles package. This is just a small sampling of the half day trips you can take while staying a Saints Tai Tapu; we are happy to offer more suggestions when you book your stay with us.
